So far the growing season at The Fairgrounds has been nothing but fruitful, and we continue to have gardening workshops every Saturday from 12-3pm. Each week Little Berlin and Growing Home teach gardening basics to beginning gardeners. We learn about starting plants from seeds, creating good soil, watering, transplanting, making compost, and harvesting fresh fruits and vegetables.

This week we harvested zucchini, kale, beets, and baby onions in addition to watering, weeding, lawn mowing, placing netting over the garden beds and discovering a budding watermelon! We also planted peas, rosemary, coriander, dill, parsley and chives. Yum!

"ON THE RUN" by COLLEEN RUDOLF

"On the Run" is a direct concrete one of a kind sculpture designed specifically for the Little Berlin Fairgrounds, and paid for by a grant from the Miami Foundation.  Intended to remind an urban population of the wildlife they displaced, "On the Run" is a playful way to engage the local community in a larger conversation about local ecology.
In addition to the sculpture, artist Colleen Rudolf will lead a workshop on May 24th called “Making Tracks” where participants will look at tracks left behind by different animals and cast their own hand and footprints that will become integrated into the community garden being maintained by Growing Home, also located in the fairgrounds.
Come out to our Block Party on Saturday May 24th to celebrate the addition of our newest sculpture, as well as meet the artist Colleen!  The workshop starts at 1pm, all ages welcome. Supplies provided.
